The smell of winter air
I love the smell of winter; that brisk hint of frost, the promise of snow. It’s added to by whatever blooms at this time of year. In our back garden is a massive bush of a flowering plant I’ve always called Wintersweet. It has clusters of pink flowers that are so sweetly scented it’s like an angel passing. Diffused in the whole area it brings a scent of fairgrounds, a sort of burnt sugar smell mixed with perfume.
Other smells come from resinous branches in wreaths on front doors, and from Christmas trees. At home I use an oil burner as well as incense to perfume the house and keep the lurgy at bay. Many essential oils carry powerful anti-viral, anti-bacterical and even anti-depressant properties.
