Seagulls #smallstone 12

Seagulls circle low

Swirling and soaring around

Raucous calls ring out

Eagle feather haikus #smallstone 7

Eagle feather haikus #small stone 7

Haiku #1

Whisper-soft tendrils

Link seamlessly together

brown, beige and cream

Haiku #2

Velvet soft strength

Curving gently from shaft

Silent in flight

Haiku #3

Dead weight of guilt

Carrying such a gift home

I am no eagle.

Solstice: Saluto Sol Invictus!

Solstice Dance

21st December 09

The year finally turns

Pirouetting en pointe

The Dancer meets the Dance:

I am renewed

I have been waiting for this day since the evenings began to creep in back in September; and yet, now it’s here, I feel no different. The poem isn’t a lie but it isn’t how I feel.  It may well be the truth, a statement of reality that I have to slowly wake up to. But the walk I had today, in woods and beach frozen and layered with snow, makes me feel that winter is still going to grip my soul a long while:

Solstice haikus

21st December 09

Snow on dark holly

Sunlight on ice, sparkling bright:

Lovely but  so bleak

Silence fills cold air

Crunching feet on frozen snow:

Stillness reigns again.

A small frenzy of haikus

The other day I had time to kill while waiting for students and having written my very first haiku ever(posted over at cafe crem) I sat on a bench in the town centre and wrote a few more…

#1

Sunshine, no showers

Sandals, trainers, flip-flops

High heels or flat sole?

#2

Sun on chilled skin

Breeze tangles my wild hair

I wait in street

#3

Sore feet, blistered toes

Too tight trainers, my bad!

Putting feet up soon

#4

Present for my mum

New sketchbook for me, yippee!

Shopping now over with

# 5

I sit writing stuff

Killing time, I wait to live

When will life begin?

#6

White clouds, blue sky too

Sheep on azure field grazing

Watch out all below!
